About me,
the photographer,
Ken Wolf…
I grew up around the imagery of National Geographic, Life
Magazine and Sports Illustrated,
in an era where photojournalists’ dramatic images showed those of
us at home up-close vivid images of the Earth and the Moon.
I was exposed and inspired by the work of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Eugene
Smith, Yousef Karsh, and others who photographed people in the
streets, and showed us images that captured the essense of people’s
souls.
For my 10th birthday, my grandmother gave me a subscription to
Sports Illustrated that continued until I finished high school. I saved
every issue, and used the covers to wallpaper my bedroom from top to
bottom and side to side.
I still own the first photos I ever took, with a Kodak Brownie inside
Luray Caverns on a school field trip when I was about 8 years old.
I established my first studio in Santa Monica, California in 1990, where
I developed a large following in West Los Angeles for 25 years.
In 2006, I opened a studio in Raleigh, North Carolina, where I have
continued to develop my vision of photography.
My work has revolved around creating images reflecting people’s unfiltered
reactions to specific situatons and environments – especially children.
I try to find ways to put myself in a position to watch people’s faces as they
react to real-life. In my career, I have employed this approach in wedding
photography -early on – and since the 1990s, by immersing myself in venues
where children learn and play, such as preschools, dance studios,
Custom Framing
I began creating collages in the late 1990s, Photoshop and digital photography
allowed the easy combination of images into sequences and shapes that
told stories.
Due to their popularity and non-standard shapes, I started building custom picture frames.
I build all my frames myself, using archival methods and materials. To my customers,
this means high quality workmanship and comparatively low prices for frames tailored
to the work I have created.
Digital Services
As a natural outgrowth of developing skills with digital imagery, I have acquired the
equipment, digital storage, and expertise to provide a variety of widely needed
services to the public. These include large-format digital printing, retouching, restoration,
image preservation and storage, mounting, lamination, and more.
If you’re not sure we
